Here is how I wired up my Whirlpool dishwasher to run on solar power. My system easily powers it through a full wash cycle (high heat/heated drying too!). I have 3.7KW in solar panels, a 3.5KW interter/charger, 370 amp/hour battery bank (24v system), and two Midnite Solar Classic MPPT solar charge controllers. Please try this at home! Anybody can make a working biodigestor. At Solar CITIES we teach regular folks like you and me how to produce their own clean cooking fuel from yesterday's kitchen garbage. This video shows a working mini-biodigestor made from buckets and parts from Home Depot in the U.S.. It combines a Solar CITIES sealed digestor, made from a paint bucket, with an ARTI India style floating digestor as gas collector made from two smaller plastic buckets. Filled with animal manure (or even humanure) and water and left to sit for a couple of weeks it will start to produce methane. From then on feed it no more than a half a liter of ground up food waste and water each day and you should get a few minutes of cooking gas each day. To scale up, just increase the size of the tanks and length of pipes -- the fittings remain the same, so you can turn your mini into a maxi in no time! Once you understand the principle you can build a home system that uses all your kitchen garbage and gives you up to 2 hours of gas every day, plus a valuable liquid compost fertilizer. You'll never have to compost again.
